WAN – “We elect our mayors with our freewill, only we can dismiss them. We didn’t win our municipalities easily. Hundreds price we paid. If needed, we will struggle for our municipalities,” said women in response to the threat to appoint trustees to municipalities.

The reaction of voters to the government that legalizes the appointment trustees with the Statutory Decree published following the state of emergency has increased. Van people state they will not recognize the appointed trustees.

Mahbut Talay said, “We will not recognize them if they dismiss our mayors those who we elected with our own freewill. We remember the days when the municipalities were held by the AKP government. Who are they kidding to? What does the AKP government ask while they haven’t answered for the things they stole yet? How can the AKP government try to take our mayors those who we elected with our freewill? We will not recognize anyone except our mayors.”

Kıymet Bartu reminded that Kurdish people have the right to have their own identity and use their own language, “We want our own right. We don’t accept the atrocity of the state. Enough. The municipalities were held by the AKP only stole. No one can touch our mayors and municipal employees except us. We haven’t had roads, water and garbage problems since the municipalities held by the DBP (Democratic Regions Party). We join their social activities organized in the neighborhoods. Our municipalities have continued to serve us despite all the difficulties and political genocide. We are very pleased with our municipalities.”

Hasibe Coşkun, meanwhile, said they elected their mayors under the atrocity of the AKP, “No one can violate the people’s will. Appointing trustees to municipalities means they do not recognize the people’s will and mayors. We elected our mayors under the atrocity of the AKP and we will struggle against trustees to the end.”
