ISTANBUL –Many institutions and organizations, among them Alevi associations, warn for this attitude should be abandoned immediately by condemning the state siege in the Gazi Neighborhood.

The Alevi Bektashi Federation, Pir Sultan Abdal Association, Democratic Alevi Associations, Gazi Cem House, Gazi Sports Club, Eğitim Sen (Education and Science Workers' Union), Gazi People’s Assembly, HDK (Peoples' Democratic Congress) Sultan Gazi component, Emek (Labor) Party, Freedom and Solidarity Party, HDP (Peoples’ Democratic Party) Gazi organization issued a press statement in order to protest the police siege that continues since August 31 in the Gazi Neighborhood despite the blockade of police.

People unfurled a banner reads, “We claim our neighborhood, faith, culture stop police terror,” and shouted slogans such as, “We don’t police in Gazi” and “Stop the police terror in Gazi. Mustafa Can read the statement on behalf of organizations and said, “As Gazi people, Alevi organizations, political parties, democratic and labor organization and headman, we watch the development in Turkey and Gazi with deep concern.” Mustafa pointed out that there wasn’t a judicial system for people and democracy forces to protect their rights.

Mustafa expressed that the police siege imposed in Gazi Neighborhood gradually increased day by day and said, “They attacked the people’s material and nonmaterial values in one night. Police should stop immediately the siege imposed on the Gazi Cem House and Pir Sultan Culture and Martyrs Cem House and using tear gas in our neighborhood because they restrict freedom of worship.”
