AMED – Bağlar children made a Mini Foosball Table by using clothes pins and paper boxes and let children play with it on payment of a small fee, the children say they will buy clothes for Sur children with this money.

Children, who live in the Kaynartepe Neighborhood of Diyarbakır’s Bağlar district, made a mini foosball table by using clothes pins, paper boxes, nails and sticks that they found and they let other children play with it on payment of small fee. Children will raise money in their money box in order to buy clothes for Sur children whose homes have been demolished by state forces. The price of playing the mini foosball table game is 50 kuruş (Turkish penny) per 50 balls.

13-year-old Kerim Yazıcı is one of the children those who made the mini foosball table. Kerim said, “First I saw a flat board and I began to think how I can utilize it. Then, I thought about making a mini foosball table. I shared my idea to my friend and we began to make it together. We found paper boxes and nailed them around it. We used sticks and the most importantly, we found clothes pins. We didn’t have just paint to apply on it. We raised money together and bought the paint. Finally, our mini foosball table was ready.

“Children in the neighborhood ask us ‘what is it’ and we explain them and teach them how to play. We ask 50 kuruş (Turkish penny) per 50 balls. We ask money because we have two reasons. One is to buy new materials if our mini foosball table is broken; we want to make a better one. Second is to buy clothes for Sur children. My mother always says me that, “the feasts are for children” I remember my mother’s word and don’t forget Sur children.”

Kadir Demir (14) is another maker of the mini foosball table. He said, “I got excited when my friend told me. I knew it would be very beautiful. First, I thought I could put money in my pocket but then I changed my mind when my friend talked about Sur children. We’ll make a larger foosball table and we’ll help more children.”
