AMED – 4,800 teachers, mostly members of the Education and Science Workers Union (Eğitim-SEN), have been suspended from their duties in Diyarbakır. Eğitim-Sen No. 1 Branch Co-chiar Hava Karahancı called on families to struggle against the policy of assimilation and advocate the right to education.

11,300 teachers have been suspended from their duties based on the statutory decree published in the Official Gazette on September 1. Most of teachers are members of the Education and Science Workers Union (Eğitim-SEN) and carry out their duties in Kurdistan. Just in Diyarbakır 4,800 teachers have been suspended from their duties.

Eğitim-Sen No. 1 Branch Co-chiar Hava Karahancı gave information about the issue and she pointed out that the new appointed teachers would make the policy assimilation deeper. Hava said, “The main reason is to silence the opponent groups and put the contract employees, who obey the governmet, in suspended teachers’ places and thus they will create a policy that allows their enduring power. I mean they want to form a psychology of fear in society by dispelling the opponents groups, who defend the scientific and secular education.”

Hava stated that the AKP would put the teachers chosen by the AKP in suspended teachers’ places and as teachers; they predicted how it would affect the next generation. Hava said, “There are a war and violation of rights in his region more than 30 years. The people have suffered from them for years. The policy assimilation has badly affected the people. These applications will cause negative effect on children’s psychology. Children in this region show interest in their teachers and they are with their teachers for years. The suspending of their teachers will badly affect them and the children will be subjected to policy assimilation, because the appointed teachers will be chosen by the AKP and they will put their people to these positions. They will try to educate monotype children.

At the end, Hava underlined that everybody should struggle against the policy of assimilation and advocate the right to education in order to prevent these applications and unlawfulness.
