ISTANBUL – The HDP Istanbul MP Hüda Kaya states that the trustee appointments to the municipalities held by the DBP also means that the will of women is targeted. “The will of women has been ignored. But we will continue to resist and not to collapse whatever they do. We, as women, will stand up for our co-mayors and achievements,” said Hüda Kaya.

The reaction to the trustee appointments to 24 municipalities governed with co-mayors. The Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Istanbul MP Hüda Kaya spoke on the issue. Hüda Kaya reminded that the immunity bill targeted the HDP and the immunity of several MPs of the Republican People's Party (CHP) was lifted only for show. Hüda Kaya said, “By doing so, they are trying to create a perception like, “Look, we don’t do that only to the HDP.” They did the same when they appointed trustees to the municipalities.”

Hüda indicated that the trustee appointments are continuation of policy of intimidation, annihilation and silencing, “They tried to silence the people by burning people in the basements and destroying the neighborhoods. They targeted to annihilate the Turkey’s third largest party, which has voters in the east and west of the Turkey, with an extremely cruel and brutal policy, lies and slander.”

Hüda said the municipalities in Kurdistan did not have an ordinary comprehension, “Women raise their voice and make them visible in the system of co-mayors.” Hüda also said the trustees appointed by the AKP government are targeting the women’s achievements, “We have a system of co-mayors. Women and men are equal in this system. They aim to destroy the equal representation. The will of women has been ignored. But we will continue to resist and not to collapse whatever they do. We, as women, will stand up for our co-mayors and achievements. I believe that the dominant mindset, egocentric system will destroy.”
