As the number of municipalities rose to 25, the strike action of workers in Mazıdağı Municipality continues. People of the AKP and HÜDA-PAR have been taken to the job instead of the strikers. Berivan Döken, one of workers of the municipality, stopped working in order to protest the trustee and she has protested the trustee since then. Berivan said, “The order of trustee is a dirty order. The state ignores the people’s will by appointing trustees to the municipalities elected by the people. Today, police and soldiers are in the municipality instead of the people. Municipalities are people’s homes. We, 35 workers, have stopped working. The people will never give up their will and municipality. With our protest, we tell them that we don’t accept and recognize you. Our resistance will continue until our trustee is given to the people again.”
“We don’t accept the trustee,” said Nisan Açılan, another worker of the municipality, and continued to talk as follows; “We, as Mazıdağ people, elected our mayors. Trustee was appointed to the municipality we elected. We will elect our mayors. We absolutely do not accept the trustee appointment. We do not accept their atrocity and mayors. We will stand up for our will.”
Hamdiye Kapan, co-mayor of Mazıdağı of the DBP, stated that their municipality has been occupied, “Before, we went to our municipality, we talked to people there; however, we cannot enter it because there are police, soldiers and special forces inside the municipality. They bring village guards instead of our workers. We don’t accept that.”
Zarife Delek, council member of Mazıdağı Municipality, said, “We always were with the people while carrying out the activities of the municipality. We listened to their complaints. We had a women’s house. We carried out the activities of culture. We do not recognize this trustee appointed against our will. We will never give our municipality up. Our people, particularly women, should rise. This silence should be broken.”
Safiye Kapçak, another council member of Mazıdağı Municipality, “Whose who elected should govern the municipality not appointed people. They turned the municipality into a small police station when the trustee appointed. As elected people, we could not enter the municipality. They told us, “You were a council member, you are nothing now.” We demand an early election. The municipalities should be governed by elected people not trustees.”
