MÊRDÎN – With the approach of the winter months, women in the Artuklu district of Mardin have prepared a-month program in order to support the people in Nusaybin. Their purpose is to reach one thousand families and children.
The solidarity with Nusaybin people, who faced blockade and curfew, has been reshaped with the approach of the winter. The needs of Nusaybin people, who live in tents, rented basements or migrate to places near Nusaybin by not leaving their lands, have changed due to the winter. Artuklu Municipality co-mayor Sevinç Bozan expressed that women have prepared canned vegetables, collected winter shoes and blankets by gathering. She stated they aimed to reach to one thousand families. Sevinç said they would carry out their works with co-mayors and council members of Nusaybin Municipality even if the trustee has been appointed to.
‘Solidarity means fidelity’
Sevinç stated that Nusaybin people faced destruction when they returned to their homes after the lifting of curfew, which was imposed 134 days. Sevinç said, “Our municipalities and organizations have works on this destruction. As women in Artuklu, we want to be in solidarity with Nusaybin people. What we most need today is fidelity. Women in Artuklu Municipality, women attending the courses of Çiçek Women’s Center (Flower Women’s Center) and in neighborhoods carried out a communal work. We bought tomatoes and peppers over a ton with money that we collected among ourselves. We prepared canned vegetables for winter. We aim to reach over one thousand families.”
‘We are waiting for support from our people’
“We prepared a-month work program,” said Sevinç and emphasized they wanted to meet the Nusaybin people’s need to a certain extent with a communal work. Sevinç stated that they would buy coats for children and they were planning to buy blankets the following week. Sevinç called for support to Nusaybin people and said, “We believe, we can manage that.”
