WAN – “I will continue our struggle, women will break the isolation imposed upon our leader,” said women by pointing out the role of the PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan in liberation of women.

As the PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan hasn’t been allowed to see his lawyers since July 2011 and the Imrali Delegation since April 2015, 50 volunteers including politicians, artists and citizens began a hunger strike with the demand of a meeting with the PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan. On the seventh day of the hunger strike, brother of Abdullah Öcalan, Mehmet Öcalan went to Imralı Island on September 11 and met the PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan; however the isolation has been still imposed upon the PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan.

‘We will continue our struggle’

Meliha Aktaş emphasized that war policy of the state has been imposed on the Kurds for years and she said, “The state wants to kill us because we are the Kurds like they displaced us from our villages in 1990s. They have imposed atrocity on us since our leader has been held under isolation. Our leader sent a peace message on Festival of Sacrifices. The state thinks how it can annihilate us instead of paying attention to this message. We couldn’t live in cities now if we didn’t have our leader. They want to send us from here by firing tear gas to our streets; however, we will continue our struggle. We stand by our leader to the end.”

‘We don’t accept the isolation’

Rafya Civakli pointed out that oppression policies have been carried out against the Kurdish people since the isolation was began to be imposed. Rafya said, “They think they can do everything to us by imposing isolation upon our leader; however, we will never desist from being the Kurds and our leader whatever they do. They couldn’t annihilate us by killing for years and they won’t. It won’t be easy as before, as women, we will break the isolation.”

‘Women will defeat the male state’

Ruçen Civakli, meanwhile, emphasized that women would break the oppression. She said, “Because, the state itself is a male. They take our families in front of our eyes and torture them. We don’t accept that anymore. Those who end the isolation and war are women. Women can defeat this male mindset. Women can break the isolation imposed upon our leader.”
