SHENGAL – Female journalists in Shengal react to the closure of channels and radio stations in Turkey. “We will stand by our people and we will be their voice to the end,” said journalists.
Female journalists in the Shengal city of Federal Kurdistan Region made evaluations on oppression imposed upon the press and the closure of channels and radio stations in Turkey. Pakize Xelil, journalist of Çıra TV, said, “The broadcast of Med Nuçe has been suspended. Turkey and Europe do that deliberately. They want to silence the voice of the Kurdish people as they do every time. Europe is trying to show itself as human rights defender; however, they have suspended the broadcast of Med Nuçe TV, which is the voice of the Kurdish people. Those who defend the free press should raise their voices. As female journalists in Shengal, we condemn all kinds of oppression on free press. We will continue to raise our voice and report the truth to whole world. We stand by all channels and radio stations, which have been shut down.”
Another female journalist in Shengal Dilvin Murad said, “Europe has suspended the broadcast of Med Nuçe and that shows they have same mindset with Turkey. But, they should know very well that they cannot silence free press by imposing oppression. We will continue to report the truth. We will continue to be the voice of free press to the last drop of blood.”
Delila Axin, reporter of JINHA in Shengal, said, “We will continue to show the resistance like we did in Rojava, Shengal and Northern Kurdistan. The attack on press is an attack on democracy. They even shut down the children’s channel Zarok TV. The name of this is fascism. The closure channels and radio stations are not alone. We support them.”
Ehlam Heci said, “Those who shut down the channels and radio stations want to keep freedom captive. As journalists, we condemn the state’s applications. And I say that we will carry out works with the spirit of free press. We will not bow to the pressures. They cannot silence the voice of freedom.”
