AMED – As curfew and destruction have continued in Sur, Remziye Duruk, who didn’t leave her home during the clashes, said, “They are trying to wipe away the traces of resistance by bringing down the neighborhoods; however, the resistance will not be forgotten even if thousands years pass.”

Curfew has been declared in the Sur district of Diyarbakır six times, first was declared on September 2015. The last siege was declared on December 2, 2015 and it has been still imposed. The town with thousands years history, were shelled by tanks and armored vehicles and all historical buildings have been destroyed. As homes and neighborhoods have been pillaged, the 103-day resistance goes down in history like its walls. The people in the town want to return to their homes; however, the destruction and ban in Cemal Yılmaz, Fatihpaşa, Hasırlı and Savaş neighborhoods have continued. Sur people state that the destruction has been carried out in the town in order to wipe away the traces of resistance.

64-year-old Remziye Duruk, who lives alone in the Lalebey Neighborhood of Sur, didn’t leave her home during the attacks on the town. Remziye said, “I protected my home in Sur. I didn’t leave Sur during the ban (refer to curfew). I don’t have any place to go except Sur.”

Remziye stated that they lived under the sound of bombs, “Thousands of people experienced that like me. Still, they don’t give us peace. In one year, I experienced many things which I didn’t see in 60 years of my life. How can I forget those days? Who can forget that resistance? No one can forget those young people. They are trying to wipe away the traces of resistance by bringing down the neighborhoods; however, the resistance will not be forgotten even if thousands years pass.”
