MÊRDÎN – The trustee appointed to Dargeçit Municipality, governed by the DBP, first closed Mala Jinê (Women’s House) and Özgürlük Parkını (Freedom Park) and stopped the works of Mala Jinê’s workshops. “We don’t recognize those who don2t recognize our will,” said the women, in the district and called for struggle.
Mardin’s Dargeçit district has been under impression policies since last year. Lastly, trustee was appointed to the municipality. As Mala Jinê was closed following the trustee appointment, the works in women’s house workshop have been stopped.
Dargeçit women, who know very well the dimension and reason for the attacks, underline that the Kurds should be unity against these attacks.
Gülsüm Demir, who describes the trustee appointment as cruelty, said, “We won our municipality with our labor, young people’s labor. They sized it. This is not an acceptable thing. We went to our municipality easily when we had problems. I won’t go to the municipality even if I have a problem. We elected our mayors with our votes. They put our mayors to prisons. They used tear gas against us in order to prevent us to use out votes. We cannot go out from our homes, they ask our identity cards from us while this city is our city and country is our country.”
Gülsüm reacted to the closure of Özgürlük Parkı and said, “The state seized a park also. They want put women in home without knowing and speaking anything. The women are strong. If they want something, they will get it.”
Gülsüm emphasized that the reason behind the attack is to create their Kurds. Gülsüm said, “Our thoughts will never change. We are Kurdish and this will never change.”
Latife Arslan pointed out the recently intense pressures and said, “Can I easily express what I want to say? They will put me in handcuffs and my disable son will be alone. The municipality was ours. We said we would be free; however, we become captive. We cry every day. The municipality should be ours again. They took our park from us.”
“Why is election held?” asked Safiye Doğan and answered the question by saying, “For people elect whoever they want. I am pleased with my municipality and I will be pleased as long as it will be ours. We want mayors elected by us. The trustee is a district governor. Why is he mayor now? Is he elected to be a mayor? He becomes a mayor but he isn’t elected by the people. We were like prisoners during the curfew. The atrocity continues. Armored vehicles run over the chickens every day. One day, they will run over the children, too. There isn’t any difference between me and those chickens.”
