WAN – Women have launched a boycott against the closure of their most watched televisions. “They won’t deceive us with their lies. We won’t watch the channels which show the lies of ruling power against the closure of channels which reported our voice,” said the women.

Many channels, particularly Gün, İMC, Jiyan, Azadi, Zarok, Hayatın Sesi, Van TV and Med Nuçe, which reported in Kurdish and the opposition in Turkey have been shut down and their offices have been sealed within the scope of the decree law No. 668 which was issued during the process of State of Emergency declared following the attempted coup on July 15. Women are preparing to launch a new campaign against the closure of channels. Women in Van announced that they would launch a boycott against pro-government channels by saying, “We don’t watch televisions anymore.”

One of the women, who participate in the boycott, Hanife Borak said, “For years, the state has implemented many policies in order to make us forget our culture. The channels were the joy of us. They showed our highlands and villages. Do they think they can close our language when they close our channels? We continue our struggle for many years and we will continue our struggle.”

Sabriye Abo pointed out that the AKP government has developed its dirty policies over the women. She said, “Erdoğan closed all channels which report the voice of women. There are just channels that make the propaganda of Erdoğan. I cannot watch the channels that praise Erdoğan after this age.”

Fatma Bor talked about the state’s policies carried in Kurdistan in 1990s and she said, “We thought our pain would be ended when a channel that reports in our language, opened. But unfortunately, our channels have been closed down. Those channels showed our culture. We could see our villages, where we were forcibly displaced. They took our channels from us. I won’t watch television anymore.”

Halime Işık noted that each nation has a channel that reflects them. She said, “Each nation in the world has their language and identity. Why don’t the Kurdish people have these? We are also a people. Why did they close down our channels? To keep saying their lies easier? We will protect our identity and language to the end.”
