Women begin to make grape molasses in Eğil

AMED - With the approach of the autumn, women have begun to go grape orchards and they have made molasses, pulp and many other products from grapes. Making grape molasses generates color images.

Women in the Sarıcak village of Diyarbakır’s Eğil district have begun to go grape orchards and made molasses, pulp, walnuts sausage and beverage from grapes. Almost all families have grape orchards in the village. They send the products they made from grapes to their relatives or sell them if the harvest is good. After collecting the grapes, they begin to make grape molasses. The women, who wear boots, crush grapes their feet and pour the grape juice in the big cauldrons and boil the juice. Then, they pour the marl in the juice for hygiene.

One of the women with the most experience in the village is Hayriye Bingöl. 68-year-old Hayriye gets much information in her life passes in nature. She also told us how to make grape molasses: “We collect grapes. We crush grapes and and pour the grape juice in the big cauldrons and boil the juice. Then we pour the marl in the juice.”

Caziye Bingül lives in the city but she visits her village every autumn in order to make grape molasses and share them with her siblings.

Women state that eating grape molasses in the winter is good for health.
