Family members of inmates stated that they saw the inmates as injured during their visit and said, “They don’t have security of life”.
Several inmates held in Manisa T Type Closed Prison shouted “Tell everyone they torture us in the prison” while being taken to hospital. Family members visited their relatives in the prison in the past few days and they said they had been informed that they are torture rooms in the prison. Medeni Silinsi father of Mazlum, who has been held in the prison, stated that the time of visits had been reduced with arbitrary procedures and they had been threatened during their visit.
Medeni said, “They wanted to cancel the visit by claiming the safety devices were broke down. Then, they allowed women to enter but not men. They walked up to us and beat us. If the guards beat and threatened us, I cannot image what they do to our children in prison.” Medeni’s son told him that the inmates in B-8 ward were subjected to torture and the guards often intervened with the inmates in the ward with the pressure of the prison administration.
Mazlum’s mother Gülistan Silinsi said, “They dragged my son on the ground. I felt I would lose consciousness when I saw the wound on his face. How a mother can bear when she see her child like that? I cannot sleep anymore.”
The relative of another inmate, Mashun stated that there are torture rooms in Manisa Prison and pressure and physical conditions are getting worse day by day. Mashun said 23 people stay in the wards for 14 people and continued, “There are noise dampening torture rooms. Many inmates were subjected to torture in these rooms. Many had wounds in their faces and bodies when we visited them. We are concerned about the lives of our relatives in the prison.”
After the visit of inmate relatives, they filed a criminal complaint to Manisa Public Prosecution office against the manager of the Manisa T Type Closed Prison.
