Dilan proves herself in volleyball

AMED – Dilan’s wish to become a player faced pressure due to gender roles; however, she didn’t give up and now she is the captain of Amedspor Women’s Volleyball Team.
Successful female players in Diyarbakır impress more women to become player each passing day. Women are interested in sports, particularly in volleyball. Amedspor Women’s Volleyball Team manages to make their names in their league while the numbers of female’s volleyball teams are very few. The captain of the team that will play in the minor league this year is Dilan Çoban.
Dilan Çoban has played for Amedspor for six years. Dilan began to play volleyball when she studied in fifth grade; however she had many difficulties to play volleyball because volleyball was thought is a men’s sport. Dilan said, “Now, I am the captain of the team. Being here despite everything is a great honor for me. Becoming a sportswoman is very difficult because men say, “women cannot play sports”, I have overcome all these. I didn’t bow down to pressure of my family.
“They don’t want sportswomen. Therefore, women should play sports more. I had many difficulties. But I don’t regret to be here.”
