‘Women’s village’ to be found in Rojava

QAMIŞLO – Projects carried out for women İn Rojava following the revolution become model in the whole world. Rojava Free Women’s Foundation began their works two years ago as part of rebuilding og new life. The foundation’s target is to found Women’s village and Women’s Park in 2017. The foundation wants to build a solidarity network with women’s organizations.
Women have provided living space for women by opening women’s foundations in Rojava, where rebuilding works have continued. Rojava Free Women’s Foundation has carried out projects and works for women. One of the foundation administrators Axin Amed noted that the foundation mostly carries out works for women. Axin said they also have many organizations such as Women’s House, Women’s Assembly. She said they conducted a survey before founding the foundation and they decided to found the foundation due to people’s needs determined in the survey.
Axin expressed that they had research on health, economy, press, archive, women’s history, women’s constitution and education. She reported that they opened a branch of the foundation in Efrîn Canton this year and they also wanted to open a branch in Kobanê Canton; however, they couldn’t yet due to the conditions of war in the region. Axin said, “There are 879 orphan children in Kobanê due to ongoing war. We have developed children’s academy and playground projects and our works still continue. Meanwhile, we have five children’s gardens in Derik and Qamişlo cities of Cizîr Canton. 70 children stay in these gardens. The teachers take care of these children and give education to them in the gardens. And we have community healt centers in Serêkanîyê. These centers give health service to the people in the villages. The doctors in the centers also give psychological support.”
Axin talked about their works in Qamişlo and Derik by saying, “We provide health service to all neighborhoods of Qamişlo. We have completed 13 health programs until now. This work was developed due to the demands of families. We also opened computer course. We have offices in Derik. Training and seminars have been organized in these offices. And, we carry out a diplomatic work for the people come from other places. Our aim is to meet the needs of those who migrated. We have offices in both Newroz camps. There are Êzidî people, who came from Shengal, in these camps. We provide training for them and we give consultancy services to them. Women have begun to overcome the effects of massacre step by step. Arab people, who come from Irak, live in Roj Camp. All have been affected from the atrocity of gangs.”
Axin also talked about their projects in 2017 and she stated that their first target is to found a women’s village. She said, “Women should stand up for this village. The women, who will live this village, will form their alternative economy and life.”
Another administrator of the foundation Hena Eli talked about their works in the Derik city of Cizîr Canton and she said, “We have children’s gardens in many neighborhoods. There is swimming course in the morning and then language course begins. We want to raise the children for the future.”
Buşra Yusif, one of the administrators of the Xerbiyê Neighborhood of Qamişlo, works in community health center in Qamişlo for seven months and continued: “We carry out our works as foundation. We hold regular meetings every month and give information to the people in these meetings.”
