‘Planting flowers’ becomes an organizational activity!

MÊRDİN – Everyday, soldiers and guardians raid women’s ward in the Mardin E Type Closed Prison. Flowers planted by female prisoners are regarded as ‘an organizational activity’ and the female prisoners receive disciplinary punishment for flowers.
Female prisoners in Mardin E Type Closed Prison have faced practices not different in prison camp. According to reports received, the increasing violation of rights in the prison, search are carried out every day. Soldiers and guardians raided the wards and they removed the flowers planted in pots in the wards. An disciplinary proceeding was conducted against female prisoners on charge of The planted flowers were regarded as “an organizational activity” Female prisoners received disciplinary punishment for planting flowers on ground of “being in an organizational activity”.
Many objects, including flower, bucket and basket are banned in Mardin prison. If prisons have one of these objects, they are punished and they cannot use their right to send letter for two months. Meanwhile, the prisoners have subjected to insult when they are taken to hospital or infirmary. The conditions in the prison have been reported to get worse day by day.
In the meanwhile, prisoners have become sick due to dirty water. The water tank in the prison hasn’t been changed for years and the prisoners have to drink rusty water and they become sick due to rusty and dirty water. Prisoners reported that they don’t have any water purifying device in the prison. They also reported that they are children, including five-month-old babies and they are concerned about the health of children.
