Preparation for winter with collective labor and barter

SÊRT – Women in Siirt have continued their preparation for winter that passes very harsh and cold. Collecting the vegetables grew in their gardens women are drying vegetables and fruits and they don’t forget the methods of collective labor and barter while doing that.
As we left summer behind us, women in the Héşeta village of Siirt’s Pervari district are making their preparations for cold winter months. The women, who don’t prefer the vegetables and fruits sold in shops, grew them in their gardens and they are drying them on the roofs of their homes for the winter. The women regard their preparations as agents of socialization.
One of these women is Çavreş Bahadır. She stated she grew vegetables and fruits in her garden and made the preparations for winter by drying them during summer.
Çavreş expressed that her family eat the dried vegetables and fruits during winter and these products were nature and good for health. Çavreş said, “We make the preparation for winter with the products we grow in our garden for years. We learned this method from our grand-mothers and mothers. We continue our custom by this way. We don’t prefer the products sold in shops and we don’t use them. We give our nature products to our children. We have all kinds of vegetables and fruits in our garden. We plant tomatoes, peppers, beans and squash in our garden in summer. Then, we collect and dry them for winter. We almost dry all of the products. We already prepared pickle.”
Çavreş underlined that they grow grapes in orchard and they are preferred in Siirt. She stated that many people ask their grapes from families, who have orcgard, with barter method.
