AMED – A year after the shooting death of 13-year-old Helin Hasret Şen in the blockaded Sur district of Diyarbakır, there is still no investigation into the death. “With this longing, I wake up to the same day every day. My only wish before I die is that my daughter’s killers be found,” says Nazine Şen, who still wears the clothes from the day her daughter was killed.

One year ago, on the third day of the declaration of a 24-hour cufew in the Sur district of Diyarbakır, 13-year-old Helin Hasret Şen was going to buy bread when she was shot in the head and killed. While the governor’s office made a statement that Helin was shot when a clash broke out in the Hasırlı neighborhood, eyewitnesses and Helin’s father say that police took aim and shot her in the head. There has been no investigation into Helin’s killing. Her mother Nazine Şen feels the pain of her death as if it happened yesterday and is calling for the trial of the killers.

Nazine goes to Helin’s grave every day and still can’t believe that her daughter is dead.

“I live with this pain every hour,” said Nazine. “There were no clashes or anything. They killed my daughter while she was going to get bread. Even though so much time has passed, there still hasn’t even been an investigation opened. There’s been no development in the situation. Of course they won’t find the killers, but at least let them start a judicial process out of hope. They killed her, they couldn’t stop it; but let there be an investigation.”

Nazine still wears the same clothes that she was wearing the day she lost Helin in order to keep her memory alive. Saying that she would keep wearing these clothes all her life, Nazine said, “There’s such a great longing in my heart; there’s such a great pain, that it’s like every day I’m waking up to that day. Until I die, neither this longing or this pain will leave me.

Nazine plans to name the daughter she is expecting Helin. She says her only wish is that the killers be tried.
