AMED – One of the TUHAD-FED administrators Xece Yaman, who emphasizes that inmates are holding a hunger strike collectively or individually against increasing torture and pressure in prisons, hundreds of inmates have faced solitary confinement in the recent year, calls upon people to stand up for the inmates.

Pressure, torture and exile policies have begun to practice against the PKK and PAJK prisoners following the attacks and oppression towards Kurdistan. As we get the news of torture in the prisons in the recent year, the practices in cities curfew imposed on reach to a higher extent.

As 24-hour curfew has been imposed in Şırnak since March 14, the inmates held in Şırnak T Type Prison have launched a hunger strike against the practices in the prison. One of the TUHAD-FED (Federation of Solidarity and Aid Unions of Families of Prisoners) administrators Xece Yaman reported that inmates have launched a hunger strike collectively or individually in the prison.

Xece stated that the inmates always face to oppression, punishments and arbitrary treatments in the prison and the state has begun to turn the most against inmates with the war concept carried out particularly in the recent year. She also stated that the slightest demands of the inmates have begun to disturb the prison administration and the inmates have faced solitary confinement for one year.

Xece underlined that the oppression against the PKK and PAJK prisoners has continued to rise following the attempted coup on July 15. She said, “It seems like the attempted coup wasn’t organized by FETÖ (Fethullah Gülen Organization) because they have increased the pressure on political prisoners after the coup attempt. The visits and phone calls have been limited and letters haven’t been given to many prisoners. Now, political prisoners in many prisons have launched a hunger strike against these practices. The hunger strike of the prisoners in these difficult conditions isn’t healthy and waiting the results of the hunger strike absolutely worries us. The people should be aware towards and stand up for prisoners.”

Xece emphasized that the number of prisoners has increased greatly in the recent year and continued: “All these began when the PKK Leader Mr.Abdullah Öcalan left out of the progress. Mr. Öcalan is the only one who can end this war; however, the state insists on not taking to him. We know that this war will be expanded if the negotiation isn’t organized with him. Therefore, as federation of families of prisoners, we are concerned about the situation and we demand a meeting to be organized with Mr.Öcalan immediately. We want this war to be ended.”
