Swap Festival begins with Purple Solidarity

ADANA – Women, who gather with the motto, “Share, smile, make smile”, has organized Swap Festival in Adana. You need money to buy somethings in this festival. People exchange their belongings due to their needs. Purple Solidarity (Mor Dayanışma) organizes this festival.
Adana Purple Solidarity is organizing Swap Festival with the motto, “Share, smile, make smile” against Capitalist consumption frenzy. People exhibit their belongings across Yamaçlı Community Health Center in the Yüreğir district of Adana. The festival draws intensive attention of women. Women bring their unused clothes and belongings to the festival and exchange them with an object they need. They also determine the poor families and give the objects collected to them.
One members of the Adana Purple Solidarity Derya Çiçek Nar gave us the details of the festival: “As women, we always want to empower the collective and communal life in every area. The consumption frenzy enslaves all of us and we want to say “stop” to this state of affairs. Actually, we thought to begin this activity in order to organize the solidarity between women and stop the consumption frenzy. This activity is being carried out in many places, particularly in Hatay region. The swap festivals support the poor families.”
Derya noted that another aim of the swap festival is to be in solidarity with the cities in Rojava and Kurdistan. She said they want to be in solidarity with demolished cities. Derya said, “Our goal is to meet the increasing needs of people in the winter. As women, we want to spread the collective life with swap festivals against current system.”
