ISTANBUL – People's Law Office lawyers said the female prisoners, who were exiled to Silivri No.9 Women’s Closed Prison, were subjected to torture by guards and they reported the incident to the warden; however the warden told them, “Our guards are men, we aren’t in charge of that.”

Violation of right in the prisons against political prisoners has begun to rise with the State of Emergency declared following the attempted coup on July 15. After the claims of torture in Şakran Prison in İzmir, female prisoners in Silivri Prison claim that they were subjected to torture by the guards, too. The People's Law Office (Halkın Hukuk Bürosu) reported that female prisoners, who were exiled from Bakırköy Women’s Closed Prison to Silivri No.9 Women’s Closed Prison, were subjected to torture by guards.

According to the statement of the People's Law Office, their client Sevcan Adıgüzel was subjected to torture for shouting slogans. The statement reads, “They hit her head against wall, in the meantime, our client bled from her nose. They squeezed our client nipples. Our client was subjected to torture and harassment. And the guards used needles against our client when she was held in the cell.”

The statement states that their client, Kübra Sünnetçi was also subjected to torture in the same prison.

People's Law Office lawyers reported the torture to the warden. The warden told the lawyers that, “Tell them to not resist. This prison is for male and our guards are men. We aren’t in charge of the coming events.” The statement notes that there are witnesses and forensic reports to confirm the torture in the prison.
