Syriac women develop their self-defense force Bêt Nehrîn

TIRBESPIYÊ – Syriac women’s Bêt Nehrîn Women’s Defense Force has develop its organization day by day. “Our goal is to develop the culture of freedom and democracy in the society,” said Nişa Kurye, Commander of Syriac Military Council, and also said the changes have begun to happen in the society as Syriac women get involved in self-defense.
Bêt Nehrîn Women’s Defense Force (HSNB) was formed as one part of the Syriac Military Council and was declared as Syriac women’s self-defense force during Rojava revolution. One of commanders of the council Nişa Kurye said, “Academies have been founded for Syriac women and youth in Derik, Tirbespîyê and Hesekê. Esro Academy in Tirbespîyê has begun to open training cycles for Syriac women. The women get training self-defense and in the use of weapons. Our target is to develop the culture of freedom and democracy in the society.”
Nişa stated that they had met with many obstacles to bring Syriac women in on military works due to the structure of the Syriac people and continued: “Syriac women didn’t use weapons before. For this reason, we met many obstacles. But we exceeded that in time and women began to join the training. The people understand women can defend themselves. The changes have begun to happen in the society as Syriac women get involved in self-defense. The people understand that women can carry works in each field. Syriac women engage in war with YPJ. Our military force organizes itself under the umbrella of the Syriac Military Council.”
One of fighters getting training in Esro Military Akademy, Ninova Hena said, “Our aim is to protect our people in the society. We improve and organize ourselves against masculine system. Now, we have will and we can decide.”
