SHENGAL – Ezidi people, who have taken refugee on Shengal Mount following genocide assaults of Daesh gangs, have entered the third winter in hard conditions. Women, who are making preparations for the winter, which is more difficult for particularly children, call on human rights organizations.

As thousands of people were killed on August 4, 2014 when Daesh gangs launched genocide assaults on Shengal with their collaborators, those who escaped from the massacre took refugee on Shengal Mount with the help of the HPG and YJA Star forces. Thousands of Ezidi people have lived on Shengal Mount since then and they have met the third winter in mountain conditions.

Women carry out works for preparation and organization of life in the region, where life becomes harder in the winter. Cemila Reşo underlined that particularly children have difficulty to live in camp and many diseases have begun to appear in the camp.

Cemila said, “We have to wash children outside because there isn’t bathroom. Living conditions on the mountains has become harder in the winter.”

Cemila stated that Shengal is a resistance place and the children are aware of that. She said she is happy to live on her lands despite the difficult conditions. She also said, “Living on your own lands without depending on someone is important. The biggest issue is to be a stranger to your lands."

Cemile called on human rights organizations by saying, “There is a resisting and living people on Shengal, everyone should be solidarity with us.”
