Women building new life against closed and traditional criteria

AMÛDÊ – Women, whose lives have been changed following the Rojava Revolution, are fighting against closed and traditional measures imposed on them while playing a significant role in many areas of life.
Women, who work at Traffic Center in the Amûdê city of Cizîr Canton, rise against social measures imposed upon them. 19-year-old Liman Ehmed İsmail, one of the personnel of the Traffic Center, stated she had taken part in the works for six months and pointed out the changes occurring through those works. Liman said she was in charge of renewed vehicle licenses in the Traffic Center. Liman expressed she had an ordinary life before and said; “Working here has a major impact on my personal development. I realize my own strength and I have become stronger. My joy of living increased. Women become happy to seeing our effort.”
‘Women are now independent’
Liman emphasized the importance of the changes in women arose following the Rojava Revolution and continued: “The power was men before the revolution. Women were walking behind the men. Women have taken considerable steps following the revolution. Now, women are independent. There is a positive change in society. Women are taking their place in political, social and military works. There is a significant change in the society”
Liman stated that four women are working at the Traffic Center and said they faced the negative assessments first; however, the negative assessments wore off. Liman underlined that another factor that plays a role in the changes in women was the YPJ. She noted that the YPJ not only changed the point of view of the people, but also destroyed the social patterns. Liman expressed that the people realized the power of women in this way and the women began to be seen in all fields. Lima said, “Sometimes, the people’s point of views to us may not be accurate. I believe these will change over time.”
Liman mentioned that the women should drive and said, “Women should drive in order to be in all fields. I believe that the women can be successful in all fields when they believe in themselves and desire to do.”
