MÊRDÎN – “We have no intention to leave Nusaybin, we want the wrie fences to be removed and return our homes,” said women living in tents for months due to the ongoing siege in Nusaybin.

Curfew has been imposed in the Nusaybin district of Mardin for seven months. As the curfew has been imposed partially in the town, destruction in six neighborhoods surrounded by wire fences continues. Women resisting in the tents for six months want their homes.

‘We won’t leave Nusaybin’

Songül Tekin has lived in tent since the curfew was declared in the town. She said, “I expect to return our home when the curfew is lifted; however, now diggers are tearing down our homes.”

Songül emphasized they wouldn’t leave Nusaybin and continued: “We don’t think to live and work in another city. Our only hope is to return our homes and lands. We are living here with this hope. We won’t leave our town and we will continue to live in the tents. We expected the wire fences would be removed before the winter; however, there are still there. Our tents are for winter. We won’t set a heating stove in the tents, the electricity is cut regularly. The weather has become cold. The blankets don’t keep us warm at nights.”

Nuriye Baran, meanwhile, stated that the living in the tents are hard and causes health problems. She said, “We will continue to live in the tents until the wire fences are removed. All we want is to make Nusaybin more beautiful, remove the wire fences and the diggers don’t tear down our homes anymore.”
