AMED – Police raided the building of Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality and detained co-mayors Gültan Kışanak and Fırat Anlı.

Police raided the building of Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality which has been surrounded by a large number of police and anti-terror units’ police detained co-mayors Gültan Kışanak and Fırat Anlı in line with a detention order of Diyarbakır Public Prosecutor's Office within the scope of an investigation against the PKK. Co-mayor Gültan Kışanak was detained at Diyarbakır Airport and Co-mayor Fırat Anlı was detained in his house.

Gültan Kışanak had just returned from Ankara when she got detained at the airport. She was listened to at the Parliamentary Commission of Investigation on July 15 coup attempt and the influence of coups and secret formations on politics in Ankara.

Meanwhile, police forces raided the building of Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality with search decision the building. The lawyers objected to the decision and said the decision is against CMK (Turkish Criminal Law), Article No. 119. Police began to search the building even though the lawyers stated that the municipality is a legal corporation.

The police didn’t allow Metropolitan Municipality General Secretary Zülküf Karatekin to enter the building.

The citizens and municipality workers flocked to the municipality building in order to protest the raid and arresting the co-mayors. The people say they will not leave the municipality in order to protect the people’s will.
