Protests in Adana and Van continue

ADANA/WAN – Protests in Adana and Van in order to demand the detained the KJA Spokesperson Ayla Akat and Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality CO-mayor Gültan Kışanak to be released continue.

Free Women’s Congress (KJA) Adana Coordination and Women’s Assemblies of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) and Democratic Regions Party (DBP) released a press statement in İnönü Park in order to protest the detention of the KJA Spokesperson Ayla Akat and Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality CO-mayor Gültan Kışanak. The people unfurled banners read, “People’s will cannot be taken over”, “Gültan Kışanak is the people’s will”, “Resisting against State of Emergency, unlawfulness and injustice is a right” and shouted slogans, “Women Life Freedom”, “Pressures cannot intimidate us” and “We win by resisting”.

The KJA member Feyruze Gümüş said, “It shouldn’t be forgotten that women will be the end of this power. We will be on the areas and won’t take steps back until Gülten Kışanak and all elected co-mayors to be released.”

The vigil in Van continues

The indefinite protest launched by the HDP and DBP in Van in order to Gültan Kışanak and Fırat Anlı to be released has continued in the fifth day in Sanat Street. The HDP Van MP Lezgin Botan, members of the Mesopotamia Association of Relatives of the Missing (MEYA-DER), Kurdish Language Union (KURDİ-DER), the Immigrants' Social Solidarity and Culture Association (GÖÇ-DER), Peace Mothers Assembly, KJA, HDP and DBP attended the protest today. A statement was read in the protest by the HDP Tuşba District Administrator Mehmet Cidan. Mehmet noted that there is no word from Gültan and Fırat and continued; “Our co-mayors haven’t been allowed to talk their lawyers. The people have been detained by police.”
