WAN- Governor of Van İbrahim Taşyapan has been appointed as trustee to Van Metropolitan Municipality following police raid on the building of the municipality in the morning. Police attacked the people gathered in front of the building.

While Van Metropolitan Municipality Co-mayor Bekir Kaya has been detained, police raided the municipal building in the morning. Following the raid, Turkish Interior Ministry announced that Governor of Van İbrahim Taşyapan has been appointed as trustee to Van Metropolitan Municipality and co-mayor Bakir Kaya has been suspended from duty.

Meanwhile, Van people, including the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) MPs Bedia Özgökçe Ertan and Adem Geveri, the Democratic Regions Party (DBP) Provincial Co-chair Sevinç Şeker, gathered in front of the municipal building and issued a press statement. After the statement, police attacked the people by using tear gas and water cannon. While the people are going to in front of the building, police have blockaded the building.
