ANKARA – Minister of Justice Bekir Bozdağ defensed that draft bill in the 62nd NATO’s General Assembly by saying, “Our Romani citizens marry at a young age”.
Minister of Justice Bekir Bozdağ defensed that draft bill prescribing impunity for sexual harassers if they get married with their victims in the 62nd NATO’s General Assembly. Bekir said “Our Romani citizens marry at a young age” and explained sexual abuse with racist sentences. He said, “According our laws, a person can marry at 17-year-old by a court decision. 18-year-old person can marry if her/his parents approve the marriage. In some places, mostly our Romani citizens, families marry their children under these ages by organizing wedding parties. We don’t approve this; we are fighting to eliminate this. But unfortunately there is a problem in Turkey. What we do is solve this problem without destroying this struggle. It is a step toward solving this problem that emerges from the reality of our society in some parts.”
